HYDRA DPC-6 is the first HYDRA designed specifically to optimize the performance of digital media-server entertainment systems. Components such as digital servers, routers, disc-arrays, transports, computers and digital media centers can output a significant amount of digital noise and often have cheap power supplies with poor filtration or noise barriers. The HYDRA DPC-6 electrically isolates (firewalls) these devices and prevents them from polluting the other audio components on the power line. The DPC-6 features a Shunyata Research developed digital filter that dramatically reduces the digital hash and noise that is commonly associated with digital media playback. Digital video components can also be used into the Hydra DPC-6 with amazing performance results.

SDC - Shunyata Digital Coil
This coil was developed after years of research by Shunyata Research's Caelin Gabriel. It is unique in that it simultaneously provides common mode and differential mode noise reduction. It is a custom wound, single lay, air core design made with Shunyata Research's exclusive CDA-101 12 gauge power wire. The SDC isolates high frequency noise without significantly affecting the micro and macro dynamic range of the music.

VF-IV Filter
This is the latest incarnation of the VF filters that were made famous in the HYDRA VRay. It is a capacitive array that reduces digital noise without the associated ringing that plague other capacitive filter designs. Each AC duplex has a dedicated VF-IV filter to isolate each outlet from the others.

MPDA Filter
The MPDA (multi-phase differential array) is a complex surface mount circuit that significantly reduces power-line noise without the audible or visible side-effects normally associated with conventional capacitive and inductive approaches.

SR-Z1 Outlets
Shunyata Research's SR-Z1 Outlets, are built by Hubbell to Shunyata Research's exacting specifications. These outlets have large internal contacts that provide superior contact integrity for power cords. Ferrous metals have been minimized with no carbon materials to optimize AC performance.

The body of the outlet is oversized providing improved internal cooling capacity when under heavy current loads. All SR-Z1 outlets undergo Shunyata's proprietary Alpha Cryogenic Process. The SR-Z1 outlets provide a critical contribution toward the award-winning performance of Shunyata's power-distribution products.

L.E.D. Fault Indicator
Includes an L.E.D that indicates the condition of the surge circuitry.

Applications
The DPC-6 may be used with a reference grade power conditioner like the TRITON, TALOS, HYDRA AV or VENOM PS8. Plug your preamplifiers, tuners, tape decks and amplifiers into the standard HYDRA power conditioners and plug the digital devices into the DPC-6. This effectively isolates the digital components preventing them from polluting the rest of the audio system.

The HYDRA DPC-6 is specifically designed for use with computer media components like those listed below:

NOTE: DACs and ADCs may perform best when plugged into a standard HYDRA or into the DPC-6 depending upon the specific component. We recommend that you experiment for best results. All outlet duplex's on the DPC 6 are independently filtered and isolated so it does not matter which components plug into specific outlets on the HYDRA DPC 6.

All are equally isolated from one-another and from the rest of the music/video system.

Power Cords
The power cord that connects a HYDRA model to the wall outlet is the critical performance component in the electrical system. The more components or the greater current demand that a HYDRA supplies - the more important the choice of power cord becomes. The Shunyata power cord chosen for a HYDRA should be at least the equal in terms of performance to the component power cords connected to the HYDRA. For reference series HYDRA's, customers should consider using only reference-quality Shunyata Research power cords.

Shelves & Platforms
All HYDRA models should be supported on a hard-surface shelf or platform - off of carpet and the floor. The use of high-performance spikes or cones or other relatively hard type material are recommended for best performance. The Shunyata SSF (stainless steel feet) are a significant upgrade for a reasonable price often outperforming some very expensive footers.

Alternatives
If you only have one or two digital type devices, it may be more cost effective to use Shunyata Research's excellent ALPHA DIGITAL power cables instead of the DPC-6.
