In hi-fi stereo playback of records, the phono preamplifier - or phono pre - is a decisive factor for amplifying and linearizing the small pickup voltages.

It is important to pay close attention to its properties, since it determines the sound quality and possible use of the entire monitoring chain.

The RESTEK EMAS is more than just an ordinary PhonoPre. It has seven asymmetrical phono inputs and an additional asymmetrical high-level input. The RESTEK EMAS is the central switching point for systems with several turntables or sound bases. It manages and forwards all external sources. This is done by switching the signal sources, linearizing and amplifying or weakening the output signal as well as special adjustments to the sound boxes for sound optimisation.

The RESTEK EMAS can be adapted to the pickup system in a wide range. Both moving coil (MC) and moving magnet (MM) systems are supported.

Internally, the EMAS consists of two separate, partially symmetrical, identical mono preamplifiers, each with two volume controls. So it has a total of eight potentiometers. The inputs are switched via high-quality signal relays, whereby the ground connections of the non-switched input sockets are separated from the device in order to avoid ground loops.

The input sensitivity of the selected phono input can be adjusted in a range from +32 dB to +67.5 dB. In this way, differences in volume when switching between the individual inputs can be compensated. Using the volume control, the signal can be attenuated down to - 95 dB or amplified up to +10 dB. The two separately controllable outputs can be levelled against each other in a range of ± 6 dB and, if desired, can also be set synchronously with each other.

The output drivers of the phono preamplifier establish the connection to the power amplifiers or active loudspeakers.

The low output resistance of 50 ohms and the maximum current of up to 200 mA of these driver stages enable correct line adaptation on the one hand and the use of sometimes inevitable long connection cables between the phono preamplifier and the power amplifiers without the music signal being impaired by the cables.

All parts of the electronics of the RESTEK EMAS are DC-coupled. This makes it possible to transmit even the lowest frequencies. This means that even in the lower frequency spectrum, transmission is distortion-free and phase-locked.

The noise of this phono preamplifier is exceptionally low and the crosstalk is only detectable at the measuring limit.

The claim to ease of use and great functionality is realised through the control option of all special functions using the remote control or a single button. In this way, the design of the PhonoPre remains puristically clear - just like all devices in the RESTEK E series.

With the phono preamplifier EMAS you have a device at your disposal that leaves nothing to be desired in terms of ease of use and sound characteristics. There is no better way to make vinyl - "the black gold" - sound.
