Symmetrische kabel met 2 massief UP-OCC zilver geleiders (≥ 99,99999%) De geleiders zijn samengesteld uit 1 massieve UP-OCC monokristal zilveren ader van 0,332 mm² (AWG22) in rode en blauwe PE (polyetheen) isolatie en worden gescheiden door 5 luchtgevulde PE buisjes en gewikkeld in Teflon®. Volledige (100 %) afscherming geschiedt door middel van een gevlochten verzilverd koper (HP-OFC) mantel en aluminium opgedampte Mylar® folie. Het geheel wordt gewikkeld in papier om verkleving met de soft PVC binnenmantel en de vuilafstotende PVC buitenmantel te voorkomen. De toepassing van een Soft PVC binnenmantel is om microfonie te voorkomen. De totale diameter inclusief buitenmantel is Ø 11,5 mm.

ETI Research Kryo XLR Connector

Het connectorhuis is gefreesd uit één stuk Tellurium koper (IACS95) en vervolgens verzilverd. Het dielectric (isolatiemateriaal) in het connectorhuis is gemaakt van Teflon®: een hittebestendig materiaal dat solderen met hoge temperaturen mogelijk maakt. Teflon® wordt, na of in combinatie met lucht, doorgaans beoordeeld als het meest hoogwaardig en klankneutraal dielectric. Alle contactpennen van zowel de male als female XLR zijn uit één stuk gefreesd. Na vervaardiging worden de Tellurium koper onderdelen gereinigd en vervolgens verzilverd. De zilverlaag (≥ 10μ) wordt direct op het Tellurium koper aangebracht. De connector wordt vervolgens cryogeen behandeld. Om in- en afstraling (EMI/ RFI) te voorkomen wordt de connector gemonteerd in een messing behuizing. De behuizing is voorzien van een kanaalindicatie (wit en rood) en dient, waar nodig, door middel van twee schroeven ook als trekontlasting. ETI XLR connectors geven een extreme klankverbetering t.o.v. de standaard XLR connectors. Doorgaans zijn de XLR female contactpennen verende en onder grote tolerantie geproduceerde nikkel (IACS16) pennen. Nikkel is een van de slechts geleidende metalen en bovenal een klankmatig inferieur product. De contact pennen in alle ETI Kryo connectors zijn binnen minimale toleranties op de normen gefreesd uit Tellurium koper (IACS95). De signaalverbindingen van de Kryo XLR connector dienen te worden gesoldeerd. Kabels met een diameter tot 14 mm. kunnen probleemloos worden gemonteerd.

The new Kryo XLR Connector marks the first time ETI Research has produced this type of connector. It has taken time for CNC machining to progress to the point where the female connection can be machined to the thickness ETI Research knows is best.

For a long time XLR connectors with some type of Copper have been available but many of the male pins have too much mass, which causes excessive capacitance and alters the sound. Some of these XLR connectors had Copper male connectors while the female connectors were still Brass formed! This is because the hollow nature of the female pin was difficult to machine and a lot cheaper to make by using the original pins formed in Brass molds. ETI Research was still not interested because this defeated the purpose of using Copper for greater sound quality. The next step to produce female connectors out of Copper was undertaken by rolling flat Copper to make the female connection. This resulted in more problems when it came to uniformity because the surface contact area for inserting the Male was not consistent and could make the connection unstable. Associated with these problems was surface thickness. ETI Research has found the best sounding thickness for low-voltage connectors: Thicker causes negative influences in sound quality, as did going too thin. We feel the best connector has the least effect on sound and that is what ETI Research works to achieve. So we waited until we could manufacture what we felt was the best on the market. The ETI Research Kryo XLR Connector has both male and female connectors CNC machined with optimum wall thickness and made from Tellurium Copper for durability, which is important for long-term use.
